Vice President, Herald Urban Mission Institute

1. My Passion for Missions

In 1994, my wife and I were commissioned by the Evangelical Free Church of Hong Kong to serve as missionaries in Macau, where we spent eighteen years in ministry. During those years, we were involved in church planting, campus evangelism, and cultural outreach. Our experience in Macau taught me that missions is more than simply proclaiming the Gospel. It is about reaching out to people, building meaningful relationships, and caring for others with the love of Christ.

I have also been deeply committed to literature and publishing as a means of evangelism. I founded The Times Monthly, a Christian periodical, and contributed to books such as Christianity in Macau and Christian Drug Rehabilitation in Macau. I believe that the written word can transcend the boundaries of time and geography, becoming a powerful instrument for sharing the Gospel and bearing witness to God’s grace.

2. My Theological Training

In 1991, my wife and I graduated from the Evangel Seminary in Hong Kong. Years of pastoral and missionary experience convinced me that effective missions must be firmly grounded in biblical truth while remaining sensitive to cultural and social changes. This conviction led me to pursue further theological studies, and in 2016, I earned a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree from Bethel Bible Seminary in Hong Kong, focusing on Gospel communication and cultural missions.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of learning from Dr. Ray Bakke, a pioneer and leading voice in urban missions. Under his guidance, I explored how creativity, literature, media, and personal relationships can serve as bridges for the Gospel in multicultural cities. His insights have strengthened my conviction that churches must move beyond their walls, engage with their communities, and bring the Good News to people where they live and work.

3. My Philosophy of Teaching

In 2021, I moved to New York to serve in missionary training at the Herald Urban Mission Institute. I firmly believe that theological education should go beyond the transmission of knowledge. It should be a transformative journey of spiritual formation, personal growth, and hands-on missionary practice.

My vision for teaching is to transform the traditional classroom into a dynamic training ground where future missionaries are equipped, evangelistic ministries are practiced, and urban communities become living mission fields.

I hope to lead students beyond the classroom walls and into the heart of their communities, engaging them in urban evangelism and cross-cultural missions. Through hands-on experience, they will learn by doing and grow through serving.

My goal is not merely to train students who understand missionary theories, but to raise up a generation of missionaries who are passionate about the Gospel, wholeheartedly committed to Christ, and courageous enough to step out into the world to fulfill His Great Commission.

May we be not only recipients of the Gospel, but also faithful messengers of the Good News, so that more lives may be transformed through Jesus Christ!
